From his humble beginnings to becoming a "World Citizen" Dr. Toby Malichi, Hon. D. Bus. overcame tremendous odds to become a successful, self-made internationally-recognized entrepreneur and small business leader, trusted advisor, confidant, thought-leader, international deal facilitator, and motivational speaker to some of the most influential business, trade, and government leaders around the globe; from being one of the youngest district managers in the history of General Motors Corporation to founding his own firm 30 years ago Malichi Group Worldwide, a world-class international strategic advisory and consultancy firm that spans a network of global relationships in every major region of the world.
Dr. Malichi, guided by the scripture; Proverbs 2:6, is often referred to as "The Go-To-Guy" by his contemporaries; has traveled extensively to every major region in the world, making and brokering deals, strategically advising, and speaking to world business, government, political, and spiritual leaders about an array of critical issues ranging from giving rise to the poor and the homeless: Aid and Trade; to promoting successful Free Trade Agreements (NAFTA, FTAA, CAFTA, AGOA, Columbia, Panama, South Korea) on behalf of small-and-medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) under two White House Administrations (Clinton, and Bush) including the United States Department of Commerce, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce from 1993 to 2002; to serving as a SME leader and delegate to the first and only World Trade Organization (WTO) ministerial meeting ever held in the United States which was convened in Seattle, Washington in 1999. .
An internationally-recognized small business leader, strategic advisor, and confidant; Dr. Malichi was appointed to two federal boards including the U.S. Small Business Administration's - National Advisory Council. Serving three different White House Administrations since 1993: President(s) Clinton, Bush, and currently, Obama; Dr. Malichi is a selected official volunteer and federal appointee by the U. S. Secretary of Commerce to the board of directors of the U.S. & Foreign Commercial Service - U.S. Department of Commerce - Indiana District Export Council. In May 2011, Dr. Malichi was elected vice-chairman of the Indiana District Export Council and is the first black to hold the prestigious position.
January 21, 2010, Dr. Malichi served as a panelist for Jobs on Main Street, Customers Around the World Conference hosted by Ambassador Ron Kirk, Executive Office of the President, The United States Trade Representative (USTR) in coordination with the U.S. Department of Commerce, the Small Business Administration, the Export-Import Bank, and other U.S. Trade Promotion institutions.
Dr. Malichi has been invited and selected for 2011 to join a select group of leaders to serve on Chief Learning Officer magazine's prestigious 2011 Business Intelligence Board. He will help CLO gain better insight into work and challenges in the global marketplace.
Dr. Malichi earned a degree in computer science and graduated with distinction from Vincennes University (one of his alma mater's) - the State of Indiana's first college. He has studied extensive course work in business from Indiana University. On April 30, 2005, Vincennes University bestowed him with an Honorary Doctorate Degree of Business (Hon. D. Bus.). He was named twice as a "Greater Washington Power Player" for 2000 and 2001 by the Greater Washington (D.C.) Board of Trade. .
Dr Malichi holds the distinction of being one of the youngest district managers in the history of General Motors Corporation (GM) for Chevrolet Motor Division and was the youngest division manager at age 23 for then GM/Frigidaire Division. He successfully completed intensive course studies and graduated with distinction from GM's prestigious School of Management and Marketing. During his tenure, Dr. Malichi survived a near fatal car accident and spent several months in a critical care burn unit. His superior performance, while managing 14 franchise dealer organizations, exceeded corporate sales, marketing, and business development goals that generated annual revenue gains of more than $70 million, and earned him the prestigious and coveted General Motors/Chevrolet Motor Division Leader's Ring. .
Dr. Malichi has meant with former U.S. presidents, current cabinet members, members of congress, foreign heads of state, ambassadors, trade ministers and CEOs throughout the world; and has testified before congress on trade legislation representing the issues of small-and-medium-sized enterprises.
Dr. Malichi is also known worldwide for his passion and high-energy for pro international trade and Free Trade Agreements. He is often called upon by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the U.S. Department of Commerce, and the United States Trade Representative Office (USTR) for his strategic advice, insight, speaking and facilitation skills to represent small-and-medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) at the highest of levels of governments for various high level briefings, meetings, roundtables, and dialogues worldwide.
Dr. Malichi has also served as a selected official volunteer small business leader, spokesperson and advocate on behalf of the White House Administration promoting the North America Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA); and his congressional testimony on NAFTA before the United States House of Representatives is recorded in the 1993 Congressional Record. As a result of his work on the successful passage of NAFTA, Dr. Malichi was invited by President Bill Clinton and Vice President Al Gore to be a guest at The White House for the historical signing ceremony of the NAFTA Accord. Former President(s) George H. Bush, Jimmy Carter, and Gerald Ford also participated in this historic ceremony.
Dr. Malichi has personally met with many world leaders including: Pascal Lamy, Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO); Tung Chee Hwa, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), People Republic of China; Robert B. Zoellick, President and Managing Director of The World Bank; Germany Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder; and William Daley, White House Chief of Staff; the Obama Administration and former Secretary of Commerce in the Clinton Administration; just to name a few.
Dr. Malichi was an invited VIP on the now famous "Yacht" during an October 1, 1997 Chinese Handover ceremony which was held on the Hong Kong harbor.
From 1995 – 2002, Dr. Malichi was a selected participant, official spokesman, and Issue Group Advisor for the U.S. - European Union (EU) Trans Atlantic Business Dialogue (TABD) Small-and Medium-Sized Enterprises Working Group III, Co-convened by The White House, U.S. Department of Commerce and the European Commission.

With numerous boards, appointments, and honors to his credit: Dr. Malichi is a former member of the board of directors for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce headquartered in Washington, D.C.; served on the international policy committee, and is a charter board member of the Chamber's Small Business Council. He also served on the executive committee and the board of directors for the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) in Washington, D.C., a non-profit affiliate of the National Endowment of Democracy and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, which funds and assists the development of market-based democratic institutions through-out the developing world.
In September 2009, Dr. Malichi was recognized as a man of distinction by the 100 Black Men of Indianapolis, Inc. as part of their 25th Anniversary year as a leader in his field and having made a positive impact on the city of Indianapolis.
In November 2004, Dr. Malichi was invited by President George W. Bush to be a Delegate to the White House Economic Summit. Dr. Malichi was appointed by Indiana’s Senior Senator Richard G. Lugar, former chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee as a Delegate to the 1995 White House Conference on Small Business. Dr. Malichi was an elected Delegate to the 1986 White House Conference on Small Business.
Dr. Malichi in 2001 was coroneted Chief of the Ashanti Tribe - Central Region Accra, Ghana; and is a 1996 recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash, the highest honor that the Governor of Indiana bestows. Moreover, Dr. Malichi has served as an advisor to American Express Small Business Services, and is a past National Advisor and federal appointee to the U.S. Small Business Administration's National Advisory Council (NAC). Dr. Malichi is an invited participant and delegate to the World Economic Forum (WEF) and Asia Pacific Econnmic Cooperation (A.P.E.C.). Dr. Malichi is also listed among "Who's Who of Global Leaders.”
In February 2001, Dr. Kisten Rajoo - Consul General of South Africa, and Ms. Pat Sonjani, Consul - The Chicago Consulate, appointed Dr. Malichi as the first president of the Indianapolis Branch of the South Africa/United States (SA/US) Midwest Chamber of Commerce.
Dr. Malichi was elected vice-chairman and chairman of the Indiana Small Business Council, Indiana Chamber of Commerce from 1987-1990; the first black to hold such a presitgious position. During that time, he also served on the executive committee and the board of directors of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Malichi also served as Chairman of the 1989 Governor's Conference on Small Business officiated by then Indiana Governor Evan Bayh now a U.S. Senator. .

Dr. Malichi is also the founder of Malichi Marketplace Missions - nurturing the sea of souls, a privately-funded 501 (C) (3) not-for-profit international corporation who's international marketplace missions seeks to equip, inspire, and coach executives and leaders from all facets of business, industry, governments, and the professions by providing insight, direction, and principals-centered leadership solutions, strategies, and practices to energize and sustain their businesses and purpose.
Dr. Malichi an ordained and licensed marketplace minister with a prophetic voice was invited to be a featured marketplace speaker at the 5th Eastern Gate Prayer Convocation 2007 Singapore. His seminar topic was "Transformation of the Marketplace." The Prayer Convocation was attended by thousands of pastors, ministers, spiritual, government and business leaders from over 58 countries and all seven continents. In 2005, Dr. Malichi was one of twenty-five World Business and Religious Leaders invited by the governing body of Transform World Connections headquartered in Singapore - to attend a special world body meeting in Kona, Hawaii - and was subsequently selected to become an International Marketplace Focus Group Facilitator, Speaker, and Delegate to the Transform World Indonesia 2005. There were more than a 120,000 leaders and delegates from all over the world in attendance. Dr. Malichi will also continue play a vital role in future Transform World Connections - marketplace and global ministerial conferences and prayer convocations. .
While attending Transform World Indonesia 2005, Dr. Malichi was personally selected and invited by Pastor Bambang - Founder of 70 churches in Medan, Indonesia, to be the week's revival - featured speaker. Dr. Malichi ministered to thousands - on the marketplace and governance. Medan is the second largest business district in Indonesia. Dr. Malichi has also conducted seminars on the "Marketplace" for Youth With A Mission (YWAM), at the University of the Nations in Kona, Hawaii. . . .
In 2009, Dr. Malichi key noted the plenary session on "Embracing Change" for the 35th Annual professional training seminar of the Federal Women's Program (FWP) - Federal Executive Association.
In 2008, Dr. Malichi was as a panelist and speaker at the Global Diversity Supply Chain Conference sponsored by Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. The conference attracted over 200 CEOs and business owners from around the Midwest. .
In 2005, Secretary of State, Colin Powell of the U.S. State Department invited Dr. Malichi to deliver motivational talks to high school and college students and professors in Grenada and Barbados Dr. Malichi was invited back to speak to government officials and employees in Grenada by the Prime Minister.
Dr. Malichi also served as the moderator for the International Franchise Association - Minority Business Enterprise Magazine's panel discussion on franchising held both in Washington, D.C and Los Angeles California. The international franchise conference attracted franchisors and franchise's from all over the world.
In 2001, Dr. Malichi was a keynote speaker at the Institute of Economic Affairs African Conference on Corporate Governance and Sustainable Development - Accra, Ghana for small and medium-sized enterprises sponsored by the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) and the National Endowment for Democracy (NED).
Dr. Malichi a current board member for over 18 years also was the keynote Speaker at the 1999 National District Export Council's Annual Conference for the U.S. Foreign and Commercial Service - U.S. Department of Commerce. The DEC conference was attended by national district export council board members, government officials, and U. S. Embassy and Consulate officials from around the world.
A charismatic individual and gifted speaker, Toby Malichi, "The Motivator" is in great demand as a motivational speaker, with more than 3,000 speeches worldwide to his credit. A team player, Dr. Toby Malichi on January 29, 2010 was inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame as a starting forward of the 1972 Division I Men's Basketball Team - the first intercollegiate basketball team for Indiana University - Purdue University (I.U.P.U.I). He is a life member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., and is a proud and loving father of five children including twins and four grandchildren.
